Fanesca appreciation post
The Fanesca is the official soup of the Semana Santa, back in the day with everyone was die hard Catholic people didn’t eat meat on Semana Santa so they ate this bad boy all week. And some didn’t bath from Thursday to Sunday because they fear to be transformed in a fish … Yeah, those times
Fanesca has 12 grains and dried fish, eggs, little empanadas, onion, banano de comida, and several other things. It’s now made in the streets markets as well as in luxury restaurants like the Hotel Quito. It has a strong flavor, kids usually hate it, but once you are used to it.
I can’t believe this day is finally here. Literally a dream of mine comes true today. We have off until Monday for Semana Santa (Easter and Holy Week) - So we have 5 days in Galapagos and then 2 days in Cuenca. This is going to be a truly amazing trip.
I’m way behind on my blogging. Life here has been way too busy, including a crazy midterm period. When I return, hopefully I have some down time to catch up on all I’ve missed.
Wish my luck on my travels! Galapagos here I come!

Thank you! haha
Ecuador is FULL of stuff to do. Here are some recommendations:
Esmereldas: This is an area by the coast that’s Full of beaches. It’s beautiful and really so much fun. Drinks and food are cheap too!
Mindo/Baños: These are two very green towns, that exist for your pleasure haha These places are very touristy but full of things to do for avdenture. Puenting, Zip-lining, horse back riding, tubing, white water rafting, hiking, everything you could ask for.
Amazon: This place might be pricey but it is a breathtaking experience. You can live in the jungle for a day or two and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. It’s an indescribable experience.
Galapagos: Maybe not this time around, but eventually get to the Galapagos. I go in April and I cannot wait. This place is like no other in the whole world, and I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that.
Centro Historico: This is a very cool part of Quito, it’s very old school and colorful. I love being there just for the sights. You can make your obligatory visits to the churches, but I like to walk around, visit La Plaza Grande, and just grab a cheap bite to eat. It’s beautiful here.
Cuenca: Cuenca is a crazy beautiful city that I hope I get to visit before I leave. I don’t know much about it yet, but I literally here from every person that this is just an unremarkably pretty place that you I’ve gotta see.
La Fosh: If you’re white and you love to party, head to La Fosh in La Mariscal. It’s a fun time for the weekend to get a little crazy in a mix of Ecuas and gringos alike.
Markets: Find a local fruit market and take a visit. I went once and saw more fruit and vegetables than I’d ever seen, more than I can name. While you’re here be sure to try all the fruit that don’t even exist in America.

I’ve obviously had a very very touristy experience with my program here haha Gotta see all the good stuff right? I hope to learn some cool places that are not on a tourist map before I go, or maybe just next time I come visit haha
I hope I helped a bit! Feel free to ask for more details if you need more help :)

Traveling has made me realize just what in this world makes me happy. The richness of this world is too magnanimous to let it sit idly, too many worlds within this world still have yet to be discovered, explored, understood. I want to continue to connect myself more globally, expanding my web of relationships with people, places and things of this planet. Flee from the mundane, typical lifestyle of emptiness and replace it with fulfilling, ever enriching experiences.
Plant the seed and watch it grow …..
Max has been with me all week, so I’ve distracted showing him around :)
Best week I’ve had in Ecuador :)
